::  from Alpe d'Huez to Mt Ventoux - xc/dc  ::

In the autumn, we chase the sun towards Southern France

and ride from the most beautiful trails of Alpe d'Huez to Mont Ventoux.

Originally conceived as an all-mountain journey, this trip is now also available as a cross-country multi-day adventure.

We stay in the same gîtes, but the route has been completely redesigned!

A must-ride for the adventurous mountain biker !

We ride a 6-day adventure from our base camp near Alpe d'Huez to Mont Ventoux.

Starting in the high Alps, we see nature & trails changing

into the Provence region with its typical dry warmth.

Each day offers a choice between two xc-dc tours: L and XL,

allowing you the freedom to decide based on the previous day's experience, weather, mood, and more.

Furthermore, you have the option daily to ride independently using a GPX track or join the Legenduro guide.

The guide accompanies the group daily, providing technical support.

Every evening, we dine and stay at a different charming gîte,

ensuring you start the next stage full of energy.

:: Saturday ::

Arrivals

Everyone is welcome at our home base at the foot of Alpe d'Huez starting from 4 pm. In the evening, we will introduce ourselves, brief you on the upcoming trip, and check the bikes.

:: Sunday ::

prologue & Alpe d'Huez

We kick things off in our own backyard with an off-road climb to the first legend: Alpe d'Huez. We continue through the Alpine meadows and climb towards several panoramic mountain lakes. The perfect picnic spot!

A winding path along a mountain ridge allows us to enjoy a long flowy descent.The L route then climbs directly back to the chalet. The XL loop adds an extra mountain pass and a challenging switchback descent.

:: Monday ::

Alpe d'Huez → Matheysienne

We pack our bags and head out! A first balcony descent takes us from the chalet to the valley floor, where the first -600 meters fly by. The itinerary includes the ascent of two mountain passes, both connected by ancient paths used by shepherds and miners.

:: Thursday ::

Buëch → Baronnies

The Mont Ventoux is already peeking on the horizon; we are getting very close-by! Today, we traverse the Baronnies National Park. Along various singletracks, we descend towards the olive trees (and figs, yum!) of Montbrun-les-Bains.

:: Friday ::

Mont Ventoux

Finally, the bald mountain, the Mont Ventoux! Today, the climb of this mythical mountain is on the agenda. For those still feeling fresh, there is even the option to choose the 100% off-road ascent. Once at the top, we behold the 360° view, from the Alps across the Rhone valley to the Mediterranean Sea. We conclude with an incredibly long trail to a well-deserved cozy terrace.

In the late afternoon, we drive back to home base Auris by bus.

:: Saturday ::

Departure after breakfast

:: Tuesay ::

Matheysienne → Devoluy

On day 3, we traverse the Devoluy mountain range. A playful singletrack through ancient glacier debris leads us to the gateway of this large mountain cirque.

The area is relatively unknown among bikers, but it is a true hidden gem! In the forests, we ride winding MTB rollercoasters, above the tree line, we cycle through flowing lunar landscapes.

:: Wednesday ::

Devoluy → Buëch

From now on, we notice a clear turning point: it gets a few degrees warmer, the nature becomes drier, the trails a bit rockier... we bid farewell to the Alps and welcome the Provence.

Today, we ride through the playground of the "Chemin du Soleil" raid. It's a true maze of paths, constantly up and down, winding along a mountainside, cutting through narrow gorges. We also come across a small swimming lake where the bravest can take a dip.

:: The ride ::

This holiday is aimed on xc - dc bikers with a sense for adventure.

Each day, you'll tackle a max of singletracks, with the choice between the L or XL route to adjust to your level. This is not xc racing (but you can ride at your own pace). This is about having a good time in the mountains and riding bikes with friends. To fully enjoy the tour, a solid intermediate (level 2) technical skill set is required. You are a xc/dc biker with good descending skills, but enduro skills are not required!

LEVEL  3 & 4

You ride regularly your bike and are physically prepared. You're fine with sustained climbing, even on singletrack. Probably you train regularly.

You climb daily 1700m (L) or 2200m (XL). You can carry/push your bike for short sections.

INTERMEDIATE

You are a xc/dc/trail mountainbiker

with experience in different riding locations and mid-level mountains. You are in control on moderate steep singeltracks on a large variety of surfaces with some rocks and roots.

You have a good base skills

but you often meet your limits in the mountains.  Enduro riding skills are not required!

BIKE

The ideal bike for this trip is

a trail-xc fully with 100-130mm of travel,

tyres for the mountains and a dropper seatpost.

A hardtail is also possible,

but makes it technically more challenging.

⚡️ e-mtb? It can!
